Amit,

I was wondering if there were any significant barriers to kernel hacking in virtual environments such as VMWare or QEMU. I know that they might not be the best place to work on device drivers but is there any reason I can't learn to hack the linux kernel in VMWare Fusion? Would this make it harder to debug kernel failures? For example being in X and unable to catch the output of a kernel panic? I think I read somewhere that you kept a lot of different OSs in virtual machines and as an experienced OS researcher I thought you might be able to answer this. Thanks I appreciate any feedback or insights that anyone can give.
